Today was an early one for me! Steve had an early meeting and he dropped me off at the gym along the way. I ran 6 miles on the treadmill then sat in the wet sauna for about 10 minutes. I know, I mentioned that I was going to cancel my gym membership but sitting in the sauna felt so great! So now I’m debating on whether or not to cancel plus I NEED to start swimming again for triathlon training.
This evening we had a few friends over to watch the Boise State football game. We made chili and baked potatoes for dinner which is our favorite football watching dish. I even made mine with a sweet potato, yum! It was the perfect way to end the week except BSU’s defense seemed to MIA….ugh!
6 miles on the treadmill and 1 hour dog walk
Breakfast – 1/2 whole wheat bagel (1 yellow)
Lunch– Black Bean and Butternut Enchilada leftovers (1 yellow, 1/2 green)
It’s Thursday and only one more week until Thanksgiving! Last night, I realized we didn’t even think about doing a friendsgiving this year like we have done for the past several years. It just didn’t cross my mind. I was bummed when I realized that but I’m really looking forward to spending time with my family and seeing some friends in my home town next week.
I spoke with my mom yesterday making some plans and we are going to the Christmas parade and Festival of Trees next Friday (after Thanksgiving) so don’t say it’s too soon! I love going to the Festival of Trees and seeing all of the beautifully decorated trees and soaking in all of the holiday spirit.
Speaking of holiday spirit, we put up our Christmas lights last night. Unfortuntely one of the strings is not lighting up so it looks like we need to replace that one. We wanted to get them up but won’t start turning them on until after Thanksgiving. I feel like I’m apologizing for loving Christmas and wanting to celebrate it now. What are your thoughts on it? Too soon?
The morning started off with a light snow which turned into pouring rain. The snow was pretty but the rain meant no walk for dogs and they got bored real quick. Kenda started off by bringing me her rope then Noah brought me his ball and soon we had throwing party in the house.
How was your first weekend of October? It was absolutely beautiful here in Boise. It doesn’t even feel like fall except that it gets dark so early.
Saturday morning I somehow managed to turn off my alarm instead of hit snooze. So when I woke up at 8:09am, I panicked because my running group was meeting at 8:30am. Luckily I had all of my stuff together so I quickly poured coffee, grabbed an english muffin and got ready to runout the door. I let my friend in the group know I was running a few minutes late and headed to our meeting spot at Whole Foods.
We ran 10 miles and then met back up at Whole Foods for some coffee and I treated myself with a Rice Flour Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Muffin. It was very tasty and I chatted with the group for a few before it was time to head home and get ready for work.
Saturday evening we decided to grill up some burgers, chicken thighs and salmon. We had burgers for dinner and prepared the chicken thighs and salmon for meals later in the week.
Steve helped me with meal prep and making up lunches for the week. It was super helpful and we got it done so fast by working together.
After dinner I put on my compression socks, turned on the fireplace and got comfy on the couch to watch the Boise State Broncos take down the Rainbow Warriors of Hawaii. Steve and I actually started dating just over 9 years ago when we had our first “date” during the BSU vs. HI game. Still can’t believe it’s been that long and that matchup will always make me happy as a reminder of it.
Sunday morning I woke up early and sipped coffee while reading blogs before Steve got up. He offered to make pumpkin pancakes and I definitely took him up on it! They were so yummy and a great pre-run breakfast.
I ran 5 miles after breakfast along the Oregon Trail area just down the street from our house. I love this area because the trail is wide and slightly soft and it’s so cool to appreciate the history of the area. Plus the fall colors were gorgeous!
Then we took the dogs for a hike up Tablerock. More fall colors and it really tired the dogs out…win..win!
After all of that we came home and cleaned up the garage, weeded, mowed the yard and made sure enjoy all of the sunshine of the afternoon!
But first I had to go go for a run after work because I didn’t get up early enough this morning. These dark mornings are really not helping my morning workouts. Luckily tomorrow is Body Pump which I love so I will be up early for the 6am class. Had a great run with the dogs and now they are tired dogs after our 5 miles run. Watching me bake!
Well we are all ready for bed now. Have a good night!
Hi All! Welcome to my blog. I’ve been toying with the idea of setting up a blog to document and share all my passions related to healthy living through yummy food and exercise and what better time to get started then a long weekend off work?
It’s Black Friday and I have vowed to not take part in the craziness after many years ago driving 30 minutes to Best Buy at 3am to wait in line in the cold Idaho weather. After waiting in line for hours and rushing in for a camcorder (…yes I know old school…but that’s what my brother wanted) they were all gone . So what did I end up doing? Buying something way over budget to make my little brother happy because I was NOT leaving the store empty handed. Lesson learned!
So today, I slept in then watched my favorite show, Four Weddings, while sipping my pumpkin spice coffee. Much better!! That lasted for awhile until I started getting “the look” from my 2 blacks labs. If you have dogs I’m sure you a familiar with “the look” of take me outside and entertain me. Yep, time for a run.
We are ready to run!
It’s pretty cold here in Illinois but at least the sun was shining brightly. Steve, the dogs and I ran our usually 4 mile route in our neighborhood at an easy pace. We even stopped in the park and ran a few “hill” sprints. Yeah I live in the middle of Illinois and it’s FLAT here, I mean there are cornfields at the end of the street. The dogs love hill sprints especially if they get to chase me.
I wore my TomTom watch because my running goal has been to increase my speed and being able to see my pace in real time has really been helping. Although running with the dogs always involves lots of potty breaks though so it was definitely a slower run which is okay with me. I am working on creating a new running schedule for this winter since the weather is a big factor and I have to rely on the treadmill more. I am also trying to add strength training and have taken two Body Pump classes this week. Wow I was sore afterwards and that’s the goal!
