Thanksgiving Recap and the End of Round One

Hi there!

Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend.

We spent time with one of my best friends, Jaylene and her children.  We decorated cookies, made pizza and watched some Christmas movies.

Then we did some shopping for Thanksgiving and hung out with my parents.

 

Thanksgiving morning, we watched the parade, prepped the turkey, watched some football, prepped the sides then had a nice dinner with just my mom, stepdad, Steve and I.  Afterwards we went for dessert at my aunt and uncle’s house.

Friday morning my mom and I went to the gym.  Then we went downtown to watch the holiday parade, fireworks and Christmas lights being turned out.  Coeur d’ Alene is a small resort town but they sure know how to put on a Christmas light show!

The end of the holiday weekend also meant the end of my 21 Day Fix Extreme.  Day 21 was on Sunday November 29th.  You can see my daily recaps HERE.  I was pretty good in the beginning with documenting my meals and using the containers to portion control.  I did ease up quite a bit the week of Thanksgiving while visiting my parents.  I still made sure to watch my food intake but sugar eating went up (a lot) and I also allowed my self to enjoy some peppermint creamer in my coffee each morning.

I went back through my daily recaps and made a list of the pros and cons from my first round of the 21 Day Fix Extreme

Pros:

  • quick 30 minute workouts
  • easy to understand containers for portion control
  • loved the Shakeology meal replacement shakes

Cons:

  • I need to plan the meals better to make sure I don’t get hungry (snacky) at night from not eating enough during the day
  • I need to get the workouts in.  I will admit, I completely underestimated these videos.  I was SORE the next day which means I was using muscles that I don’t normally use
  • I need to plan more for interruptions, AKA holidays or travel that can throw off the clean eating workouts

It’s Friday {day 19}

Hi there!

It’s Friday after Thanksgiving AKA Black Friday.  I woke up early (on my own) took the dogs outside and then poured myself a big cup of coffee and grabbed a gingerbread biscotti while turning on the news.  I. DO. NOT. shop on Black Friday.  Long time ago, I took my little brother to Best Buy on Black Friday.  We waited outside for hours in the cold then once we got inside the prized camcorder (yes that’s what he wanted) was out of stock.  We went home, he went to bed and I got ready for a full day working as a teller at a bank on Black Friday.

Let’s backup a bit since I’ve missed a few days.  On Wednesday, it was so warm in the condo that I opened a window during my workout.  It felt great to me while I sweated away but the dogs got cold I had to bundle them up because the sun peering through was not enough.

Thursday, we watched the Macy’s Day parade while prepping the turkey and sides.  As usual the turkey seemed to cook much faster than expected and it was a rush in the last 30 minutes to get the gravy and all the sides ready.  Never fails, to have that rush but everything turned out great.

After dinner, we cleaned up and then headed over to my aunt and uncle’s for dessert.  Then we had to get back to the condo to watch the Packers game.  I wasn’t feeling football so my mom and I finished decorating some turkey cookies and then we played Scrabble Slam.

Day 17, 18 & 19

Since I didn’t workout Monday and Tuesday, I did the Cardio Fix Extreme video followed by the Dirty 30 video.  Both were 30 minutes long and the Dirty 30 was more strength training than cardio so it was a perfect combo.

I woke up with a terrible headache that I could not shake on Thanksgiving so my hopes for a run were put off.  I was bummed but it was definitely more annoying to have such a terrible headache all day.  Luckily, I still could cook and that was the more important part (at least for the rest of my family).

Today, my mom and I went to the Kroc Center for our workout.  That place has everything including tons of new machines and equipment that I’ve never even seen.

This treadmill required you to set a speed but then it doesn’t move until the user starting walking or running.  It was tough but I had to try it.  I ran 4 miles on a more traditional but still very high tech treadmill.

We ended our time at the gym with a soak in the outdoor hot tub and a little swim in the lazy river.  We had a lot of fun and a great workout.  I will definitely be going back to the Kroc Center when I visit.

Football Friday {day 12}

Hi there!

Today was an early one for me!  Steve had an early meeting and he dropped me off at the gym along the way.  I ran 6 miles on the treadmill then sat in the wet sauna for about 10 minutes.  I know, I mentioned that I was going to cancel my gym membership but sitting in the sauna felt so great!   So now I’m debating on whether or not to cancel plus I NEED to start swimming again for triathlon training.

This evening we had a few friends over to watch the Boise State football game.  We made chili and baked potatoes for dinner which is our favorite football watching dish.  I even made mine with a sweet potato, yum!  It was the perfect way to end the week except BSU’s defense seemed to MIA….ugh!

Thursday Thoughts {day 11}

Hi there!

It’s Thursday and only one more week until Thanksgiving!  Last night, I realized we didn’t even think about doing a friendsgiving this year like we have done for the past several years.  It just didn’t cross my mind.  I was bummed when I realized that but I’m really looking forward to spending time with my family and seeing some friends in my home town next week.

I spoke with my mom yesterday making some plans and we are going to the Christmas parade and Festival of Trees next Friday (after Thanksgiving) so don’t say it’s too soon!  I love going to the Festival of Trees and seeing all of the beautifully decorated trees and soaking in all of the holiday spirit.

Speaking of holiday spirit, we put up our Christmas lights last night.  Unfortuntely one of the strings is not lighting up so it looks like we need to replace that one.  We wanted to get them up but won’t start turning them on until after Thanksgiving.  I feel like I’m apologizing for loving Christmas and wanting to celebrate it now.  What are your thoughts on it?  Too soon?

The morning started off with a light snow which turned into pouring rain.  The snow was pretty but the rain meant no walk for dogs and they got bored real quick.  Kenda started off by bringing me her rope then Noah brought me his ball and soon we had throwing party in the house.
